Luminex and Mainline Information Systems Announce Alliance

Companies Combine Expertise to Bring FastT Disk Storage to z800 Mainframes

Riverside, CA July 29, 2003- Luminex Software, Inc., a leading supplier of data distribution, archiving and storage products, and Mainline Information Systems, Inc., an IBM Premier Business Partner and solutions provider, today announced an alliance to provide low-cost disk storage for IBM S/390 and zSeries systems.

Under the alliance, Mainline will offer Luminex Virtual|BLUE™ 3990 controller technology and IBM FastT RAID systems for use with z800 servers. Virtual|BLUE 3990 is the first disk vendor-independent controller that opens disk storage for use with proprietary mainframe protocols.

"z800 users have a cost-effective external storage option that was unavailable until now," said Roger Luca, Senior Vice President of Systems Sales. "Virtual|BLUE 3990 plus FastT significantly reduces the cost of upgrading to a z800, making the system much more attractive to potential buyers."

"An important benefit of this configuration is that mainframe data centers can make use of IBM's new Storage Virtualization Controller to manage their disk volumes," added Luca. "z800 storage becomes part of the SAN and can be managed as part of the network."

The Luminex Virtual|BLUE 3990 controller handles all disk protocol translations for a mainframe to read and write data to open systems disk volumes, making FastT storage fully accessible to applications running under VM, VSE, MVS, OS/390, z/OS and z/VM.

"The alliance with Mainline presents valuable configuration and pricing options to z800 data centers," said Arthur Tolsma, CEO of Luminex. "Luminex's leadership in mainframe storage connectivity combined with Mainline's expertise in hardware solutions and implementation services results in a comprehensive solution for the customer."
