Luminex Announces Industry-First Mainframe Participation in Storage Networking World’s Interoperability and Solutions Demo

Joins SNIA Members at Storage Networking World, April 5-8 in Phoenix, Arizona

Riverside, CA, April 1, 2004 - Luminex Software, Inc. announced today that it will be the first company to bring a mainframe computer into the Interoperability and Solutions Demo at the Storage Networking World ® (SNW) Conference and Expo, April 5-8 in Phoenix, AZ. Luminex will demonstrate an IBM ® Mainframe configured to access all of its disk (DASD) and tape storage from the SAN fabric using Luminex’s Virtual|BLUE ™ 3990 DASD control unit and Virtual|BLUE VTS 3490 tape control unit. The Interoperability and Solutions Demo, an alliance between the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and Computerworld, promotes access to the latest information on storage solutions for users, implementers and vendors.

“Luminex is the first company to enable the mainframe to fully participate in the open systems storage world,” said Tom Mancuso, Project Manager, Interoperability Demonstrations at SNIA. “Their participation in the Interoperability and Solutions Demo expands the scope of our demonstrations to include mainframes as part of the SAN environments and fits nicely within our ‘Designing and Building Your Storage Network’ theme area. With the majority of computerized data still residing on mainframes, the presence of a mainframe in the Interoperability and Solutions Demo will be a highlight of the Spring 2004 SNW Conference and Expo!”

Luminex’s Virtual|BLUE 3990 is a mainframe-attached DASD control unit that enables open systems disk storage solutions to operate as mainframe DASD. Virtual|BLUE VTS is a mainframe-attached 3490 tape control unit that enables open systems disk storage solutions to operate as mainframe 3490 tape libraries and drives. Together, the products eliminate the proprietary boundaries and vendor lock-in that separate the mainframe from the open systems storage world. Mainframe enterprises can now take advantage of the ever-increasing features and ROI benefits being delivered by the disk storage industry.

“Our involvement with SNIA and the Interoperability and Solutions Demo punctuates our commitment to unifying the mainframe and open systems storage worlds,” said Art Tolsma , Luminex’s CEO. “SNW attendees can see first-hand the results of our development efforts – Mainframe DASD and Virtual Tape data directly stored and managed in a multi-vendor SAN environment.”

During the SNW conference, Luminex will also exhibit in the Expo area together with Mainline Information Systems, IBM’s largest mainframe and storage channel partner. The Luminex/Mainline Expo exhibit will focus on the Virtual|BLUE family of products and the two companies’ shared vision of unifying the mainframe and open systems storage worlds.
