Luminex and Levi, Ray & Shoup Announce Agreement to Bring IBM TotalStorage DS4000 Series to IBM S/390 and zSeries Systems

Riverside, Calif., October 12, 2004 — Luminex Software, Inc., a leading developer of mainframe storage products, and Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc. (LRS), a global provider of innovative information technology solutions, today announced that the companies have entered into an agreement under which LRS will market and sell Luminex’s Virtual| BLUE™ 3990 (V|B 3990) mainframe DASD control unit. Luminex’s V|B 3990 control unit enables LRS’ customers to utilize the IBM TotalStorage® DS4000 series with IBM S/390® and zSeries® mainframes, eliminating the proprietary barriers between the mainframe and open systems storage worlds.

“Luminex’s Virtual| BLUE 3990 solution addresses the growing need for cost-effective tiered storage, reducing the overall cost of mainframe storage,” said Joe Regan, director of LRS. “V|B 3990 technology, combined with the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 series, provides flexible and attractive storage options for IBM S/390 and zSeries owners and purchasers,” added Regan.

V|B 3990 eliminates the proprietary boundaries and vendor lock-in that separate the mainframe and open systems storage worlds, enabling mainframe enterprises to take advantage of the ever-increasing features and ROI benefits being delivered by the disk storage industry. V|B 3990 is a 3990 DASD control unit that enables open systems disk to be deployed as mainframe DASD disk volumes, making the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 series fully accessible to applications running under VM/VSE, MVS™, OS/390®, z/OS® and z/VM®. V|B 3990 is supported by comprehensive service options and is IBM TotalStorage Proven™.

“Our alliance with LRS brings new, economical storage options for IBM S/390 and zSeries mainframe data centers,” said Michael Saunders, president of Luminex. “The demand that LRS anticipates for our product is further evidence that our objective of bringing open systems storage into the mainframe enterprise is gaining momentum. With V|B 3990, mainframe-based customers will realize the benefits of Luminex’s expertise in mainframe storage connectivity combined with LRS’ proven success in delivering IT solutions and Enterprise Output Management software and services to their customers.”
