Luminex Announces its New Networked Enabled CD-Recording Solution Now Shipping to Customers
Riverside, CA - September 17, 1997 - Luminex Software, Inc. announces the availability of its NET-CDR network enabled CD-Recording solution. The NET-CDR is based on the leading Fire Series for UNIX software and provides automated CD based software publishing, distribution, duplication, and information archiving. Originally developed for CD library configurations, the product is now available in a stand-alone configuration to meet customer's needs for local and network based recording. Brian Hawley, President at Luminex says, "Luminex continues to demonstrate its technology leadership and commitment to our customers through this CD-Recording product. Satisfying customer demands and leading technology make Luminex an industry leader in CD based storage and archiving solutions."
The Luminex solution has been installed at many industry leading companies. The goal to deliver a premier solution that is easy to use is realized in the NET-CDR product. Luminex points to Cisco Systems as a premier customer. Doug Sawyer, Software Engineer at Cisco Systems, says "We had a couple of other solutions we were testing. Once we used the Luminex solution, we sent the other stuff back. The Fire Series software was easiest to deal with and manage. We use the Fire Series to produce the CD masters for Cisco Engineering."
The NET-CDR CD-Recording solution automates the network based recording process. Any local or remote directory accessible from the UNIX server can be recorded to CD-R. The software first creates a CD image that can be tested while it is still on hard disk, then records and verifies that image onto CD-R. Once recording and verification is finished, the Fire Series software can automatically mount the recorded disc, making it instantly available to all users on the network. The NET-CDR product supports recording and retrieval of ISO 9660, Rockridge, Joliet, and Macintosh HFS formatted CD-ROMs.
The NET-CDR solution may be used in virtually every network environment by supporting SUN, SGI, HP, and IBM servers. The cross-platform compatibility offered by the Luminex Fire Series provides tremendous benefits to heterogeneous environments that need to share, archive, or distribute data quickly.
The NET-CDR solution includes everything necessary to record CDs from a UNIX workstation: the Fire Series Software for recording and retrieval, quad-speed CD-Recorder, hard disk, and blank media. The MSRP is $4,995 and is available now for delivery.
