Riverside, CA FEBRUARY 10, 1998 -Luminex announced today the DVD-Powered SeriesTM product line of DVD-RAM library solutions. The DVD-Powered Series is the industry's first integrated DVD-RAM library hardware and software solution. The solutions include a DVD-RAM library, the leading Luminex Fire SeriesTM library management software, DVD-RAM media to fill the library, and the Luminex HOTfoldersTM archiving software.
DVD technology is a natural extension to CD network and archiving solutions, and preserves the investments made in CD
technology. The DVD-RAM drives read CD-ROM, CD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, and DVD-RAM discs. The DVD-RAM drives also write to
the rewriteable DVD-RAM media, with a capacity of 2.6 GB per disc.
The first library available is the DVD-Power-100TM library with a 100 DVD-RAM disc capacity, and 4 DVD-RAM drives. The total data
capacity of the library is 260GB. The solution is already installed at select Beta program members, with general availability in March
1999. The complete DVD-Power-100 solution has a MSRP of $39, 995. Any Luminex CDR-Power-100TM library can be upgraded to
a DVD-Power-100 library.
The Fire Series is the leading UNIX based CD and DVD library management software and is available for a wide range of UNIX
servers and supports virtually all types of network clients. The Fire Series DVD support includes the capability to create native
Macintosh HFS formatted DVD media from the UNIX server. Luminex has demonstrated its commitment to high performance CD
and DVD archiving solutions with this product line, and continues to increase its market leadership position as the only UNIX
focused CD and DVD storage vendor.
The HOTfolders archiving software automates the real world archiving process for creating, networking, duplicating, and distributing
data on CD and DVD media. Network clients simply copy and move files and folders from within their application or file manager to
a network archiving directory. The HOTfolders software transparently manages the Luminex CD and DVD libraries according to the
process and criteria the administrator has chosen. Archived projects can be made available in the library for nearline access,
duplicated for offline storage and distribution, and even partitioned onto multiple pieces of media if the project capacity is larger than
CD or DVD media capacity.
According to Brian Hawley, President, "The DVD-Powered Series demonstrates our continuing commitment to providing our
customers with the leading technologies and preserving their investment in Luminex solutions by providing valuable product
upgrade paths. Bundling our hardware, Fire Series software, HOTfolders, and media provides the customer with a complete high
capacity turnkey solution."
