Luminex Lands a Key U.S. Navy Contract for CD Storage Management

Riverside, CA - June 23, 1998 - Luminex has been awarded by the U.S. Navy SPAWAR Systems Center a contract to supply CD networking software to 115 of its ships. After a rigorous evaluation process, the Navy has concluded that Luminex's Fire Series CD storage management software is the superior UNIX based software product for storing and networking its important mapping data.

The U.S. Navy will store digitized maps using over 200 CDs on each ship. The networking software manages these CDs so that the data is always accessible when needed. The original contract is to supply software for 115 ships with possibilities to expand in the future.

Michael Saunders, Vice President of Sales at Luminex, states "This contract underscores the continued strength and growth in the UNIX-based storage management software industry. Luminex is focused on addressing this major market segment and the 'win' at the NAVY represents a substantial endorsement of both our software and our focused business strategy."

The Luminex Fire Series software is a high performance CD-ROM/CD-R storage management software. The Fire Series software supports concurrent, multi-user retrieval and multiple, simultaneous CD-R recording sessions in virtually every network environment from SUN, SGI, HP, and IBM servers. The cross-platform compatibility offered by the Luminex Fire Series software provides tremendous benefits to heterogeneous environments that need to share, archive or distribute data quickly. The Fire Series allows NFS, Windows, Macintosh, and NetWare clients to use the library as if it were a native NFS, LAN Manager, AppleShare, or NetWare server.

Luminex was founded in April 1994 with a dedicated focus on developing and marketing high performance CD and digital storage solutions. They are UNIX and multi-protocol product development experts, and have extensive background in the expanding market of digital storage technology. The Fire Series has been installed in over a dozen countries worldwide including several of the world's largest mission-critical, multi-terabyte CD-ROM databases.
