SUN-based server platforms with Luminex Channel Gateway Software:
Luminex’s Channel Gateway software, installed directly on any of the Sun Servers, delivers a solid and high performance mainframe virtual tape storage solution. The solution provides outstanding batch processing and data storage in an exceptional price/performance package. With the Channel Gateway software, the Sun server is seen as a bank of 3490 or 3590 tape devices. And with the available Sun data storage software, “No single point of failure”, Clustered and HSM configurations are fully supported.
The Luminex-on-Sun solution combines all of the best of Sun’s server and storage technologies to deliver unprecedented performance, reliability and product values.

Sample Customer Configurations
State Court Administration
The State Court Administration installed virtual tape solution using Luminex’s Channel Gateway software in Sun’s Fire X4500 Data Server. The solution stores up to 17 TBs of ZFS-managed mainframe tape data with dual parity RAID. The solution also allows the customer to backup its data to its existing LTO tape library with the TSM Client software installed on the Sun Fire X4500. Luminex’s Channel Gateway provides the customer additional functionality by allowing it to import native mainframe tapes to the disk-based virtual storage and to create native physical mainframe tapes from the virtual tape storage.

Transportation Company
A nationwide public transportation company installed Luminex’s and Sun’s disk-based virtual tape solution utilizing external fibre channel disk for batch processing operations. The solution features two Sun T2000 servers each with Luminex Channel Gateway software and FICON channels. Storage was provided using Sun’s 6140 Storage Arrays.

Utilizing an additional fully mirrored Sun T2000 server with Luminex Channel Gateway software with FICON channel connectivity at their remote DR site, they connected over a WAN to their primary site utilizing Sun’s remote data replication tools for efficient and reliable backup and recovery.

The Global Chemical Company installed Luminex’s Channel Gateway software consisting of four ESCON channels running across two clustered Sun V240 servers with Sun QFS Software directly connected to the customer’s existing EMC Symmetrix storage system for a No Single Point of Failure environment. The solution provided a highly reliable, clustered, disk-based virtual tape system with external storage.
