Luminex's Virtual|BLUE 3990 eliminates the proprietary boundaries that limit mainframe users from taking advantage of open system disk.
Virtual|BLUE 3990 is technology that makes standard JBODS and RAID arrays work directly with IBM and plug-compatible mainframes. Using ESCON and ECKD protocols on the mainframe side, open system disks can be attached via SCSI or Fibre Channel - even through a Fibre Channel SAN. With Virtual|BLUE 3990, open system disk from virtually any vendor is now available to mainframe users. Virtual|BLUE will provide multiple FICON Connectivity in Summer 2006.
Completely transparent to the mainframe, Virtual|BLUE 3990 requires no modification of mainframe software. In fact, neither the mainframe nor users can tell the difference between a Virtual|BLUE 3990 disk subsystem and "traditional" DASD.
